James and Joan Ivy Travel to California

James and I took off last week to sunny southern California to join up with cousins Patty and John Keaton in Brawley in the Imperial Valley. On the way out to Brawley we stopped outside of Tucson, Arizona to see the last Titian Missile Museum. Fascinating to see the massive missile and hear all about the installation. We then spent the night in Brawley before we traveled up to Bakersfield where we stayed prior to traveling on to Tulare in central California to the World Ag Expo.

The Keatons have attended in the past and we joined them this year to see what all the excitement was about. The Expo was well over a hundred acres of displays of massive farm equipment. From dairy farming to orchard machines for all kinds of nut and fruit trees, to any kind of tractor imaginable was on display with lots of demonstrations.

On the way home we stopped in Yuma, Arizona to visit with and go to a late lunch with cousins Jake and Cailin Keaton. They went into the hospital the next day to deliver their baby girl, Hazel. We also stopped on a whim at the War Eagle Air Museum just outside of El Paso. This was one place we highly recommend stopping if you have the chance. It was a very nicely done museum with lots of old planes and old restored cars. We then spent the night in Kerrville and visited “The Coming King Sculpture Prayer Garden.” Another neat place that we have passed by for years and never stopped, and it was well worth our time. While in Kerrville, James let me stop by the Creations Quilt Shop, one I had wanted to visit for a while. All and all it was a fun and very interesting trip, but we are glad to be home.

Birthday Celebration

Nancie and Billy Blair celebrated their great granddaughter Cadence Schick’s first birthday. They celebrated at Lutherhill with all the family. Cadence had a great time and got lots of wonderful gifts. She had five generations from both sides of her family at her get together. What a special day it was.

Out and About

Ron and Pam Knotts recently spent some time with one of Ron’s college roommates, Fred Wettling. Fred has recently moved to Austin from Tennessee and invited Ron and Pam to see his new home in Austin and see the improvements he’s made. After the house tour they went to lunch at Kabob Stop and it was a new experience for the Knotts. Fred encouraged them to sample some of everything and he offered some suggestions. Having a knowledgeable food guide made the sampling a great experience.

Road Work

Road work continues on North FM 609 towards La Grange. The road is paved, but the traffic is still being stopped for work on the surface to continue. It is getting much closer to completion and traffic can resume the normal flow in the area.
