It’s Looking Like a Stadium Again
Schulenburg Winning Race Against Clock to Be Ready for Football
David Husmann Memorial Stadium in Schulenburg is starting to look like a football field again.
Contractors recently laid new natural grass turf on the field. Stands on the home and visitors sides are in place. A crew was working on the visitors’ concession stand when the Record visited the stadium on Friday. A blade grader was on site to smooth the base layer for the new track. Construction was also underway at the new tennis courts.
The work is part of the school’s $19.5 million construction bond package that voters approved in 2023. Collier Construction is the construction manager at-risk. An unusually wet July hasn’t slowed down the progress. Schulenburg ISD Athletic Director Clay Ferguson said the stadium should be ready just in time for the upcoming football season.
“It’s looking good,” Ferguson said. “Collier has done a really good job dealing with the weather challenges we’ve had. The grass is down. Everything is on schedule at the moment.”
