Judy Richardson a longtime Caldwell resident and business owner, was seriously injured on April 8, in a two-vehicle collision on FM 975 at the County Road 118 intersection. The accident occured at about 5 p.m. when Richardson, traveling southbound on FM 975 in a 1991 Land Rover SUV, was turning left onto County Road 118. Richardson failed to yield the right of way and turned into the path of a northbound 2006 Ford Escape SUV driven by Kinzie Grace McFalls, 17, of Caldwell. Richardson suffered an incapacitating injury and was flown from the scene by a CHI St. Joseph Air Med helicopter crew to CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. McFalls suffered a possible injury and was taken by ambulance to CHI St. Joseph.

Despite the help of numberous fire departments and hours of work, a home built more that 140 years ago was lost Monday, April 4. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire in the 18000 block of FM 2726, near the town of Washington around 4 p.m. According to authorities, the house had recently been painted and was being renovated before the blaze. No cause of the fire has been determined at this time. It started as a small fire, but once it made its way inside the into the roof area, it took off quickly because of the wind. The home, built during the 1880s, was built using pine shipped down the Brazos River. The home once sat on a town known as Graball and was the final resting space of Amos Gates, a member of “The Old 300.” “The Old 300” were the original 300 settlers to receive land grants to settle Stephen F. Austin’s colony.

Terrance Jermaine Moore, 38, was driving an older-model sedan when officers initiated a traffic stop shortly after 5 p.m. on W. Boundary St. near the intersection with N. Titus St. After the stop, Moore reportedly opened the center console and started pulling stuff out, running away on foot but accidentally leaving at least one pill bottle on the seat. Moore darted from the scene and ran through the neighborhood and jumped a fence. His Adidas slip-on shoes came off his feet while on the run and was sprinting through the area with only socks on. The officers caught up and deployed a taser and Moore was taken into custody. Moore had a long history of past arrests. His new charges include: Unlawful Carrying Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon, and two charges for Evading Arrest.
