Immigration Enforcement Active in the Area
Local law enforcement said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were looking for a suspect in Fayette County last week.
Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office told the Record last week that ICE was looking for someone in the Flatonia or Schulenburg area, but he did not know who the suspect was or why ICE was searching for them.
Chief Troy Brenek of the Schulenburg Police Department said he was aware of the search, and that the suspect had possibly been employed in Schulenburg, but he had not been in contact with ICE.
Chief Lee Dick of the Flatonia Police Department said he was aware ICE had been in the area, primarily along the Interstate 10 corridor. Dick said he was not aware of anyone detained by ICE inside the city limits, but he said it could have happened outside the city limits without his knowledge.
“I do know that they were specifically looking for people with active warrants or criminal histories,” Dick said.
The Record contacted ICE to inquire about any enforcement actions taking place in Fayette County last week. A spokesman for ICE responded by saying, “... officers make arrests every day throughout southeast Texas and it would be impossible to research and respond to each one.”
