Holy Cross Picnic Returns With BBQ, Auctions and Live Music Sept. 6

Holy Cross Annual Church Picnic will be held on Sunday, Sept. 6 at the picnic grounds. They will be selling BBQ brisket, pork, fryers and sauce beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Ladies will be taking preorders for sides of beans, potato salad, coleslaw and noodles for $4 a pint. There is a signup sheet in the church Narthex for sides. Sides are also available the day of the picnic.

The Ladies Country Store will also have lots of great home canned items for sale as well as desserts, plants and home crafted items.

Children’s activities will begin at 11 a.m. The ladies will have a silent auction beginning at 11 a.m. Hamburgers, French fries and nachos will be available at 4 p.m. and the live auction will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Come out and enjoy the live music of Mark Gruetzner from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and The Lost Cause Band from 2-5:30 p.m.

Missionary League 

The ladies of Serbin LWML are collecting donations to make school kits for Orphan Grain Train. Items needed include spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, sheets of construction paper, 24 count crayons, ruler, glue sticks, scissors, rectangular erasers, 12-count colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, single pocket folders and cash to help cover cost of shipping, are also appreciated. Camp Lone Star Retreats 

Camp Lone Star will be hosting “Embark” Retreats on Sept. 18-20 and Oct. 2-4. These retreats are designed for 6th-8th grade students to grow together as a community, as well as connect with other churches from all around Texas. They will also be hosting a Father and Child Weekend Retreat on Sept. 4-6. To register for any of these retreats please visit their website at camplonestar.org.

Family Fun Day at Tejas 

Tejas Camp and Retreat Center will be hosting a Free Family Fun Day on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 3-7 p.m. This will be an afternoon filled with great food, exciting activities and wonderful time together. Free burgers will be provided by Feed the Need. Activities will include swimming in the lake and pool, climbing wall and zipline, as well as ax throwing and plenty activities for all ages. No RSVP is needed, children 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult, no drop-offs. Bring sunscreen, towels (if swimming), dry change of clothing and close toed shoes if you are doing the climbing wall or zip lines.

VFD’s 46th Annual BBQ South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department will have their 46th Annual BBQ on Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. BBQ will be available to go at 4:30 p.m. at the pits. From 5-7:30 p.m. beef and pork bbq plates with all the trimmings will be available for a free will donation. Silent auction will be from 3-6 p.m., The Blue Sunset Band will play from 3:30-6:30 p.m., and kids barrel train rides will be from 5-8:30 p.m. There will be a live auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds go towards updating fire equipment. Serbin Jackrabbits

A big congratulations to the Serbin Jackrabbits on winning the Community Baseball Championship by defeating Flatonia 15-0 in five innings. This is their second community league championship in three years. Serbin Manager Eldor Becker announced his retirement after almost 70 years in a Jackrabbit uniform.

St. Paul Lutheran School St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin will have their opening worship and orientation on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 4 p.m.

Blazing Saddles Race Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda will host the Blazing Saddles all day race on Aug. 15.

Ladies at Holy Cross 

The Ladies at Holy Cross sell boxes of assorted cards for all occasions, they are only $7 a box and individual cards are $1. The cards are on display in the Narthex and may be purchased on Sunday mornings or stop by during the week when the church office is open.

Sewing Circle at Holy Cross The Sewing Circle meets each Thursday from 9 a.m.noon in the old parish hall at Holy Cross in Warda. This is around the back side of the church. No experience is necessary and you do not have to be a church member to join this fun group. Contact the church office at (979) 2423333 if you have any questions. Game Day at Holy Cross The next Game Day at Holy Cross in Warda will be held Thursday, Aug. 20 from noon-2 p.m. A light lunch is served. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered.

The 38th Annual Wendish Fest will be held on Sunday, Sept 27 in Serbin. Neighbors Night Out in Warda will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18 at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds. Faith Lutheran High School will be having their Annual Octoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 24. More details coming soon.

Holy Cross Services 

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

The Wednesday Morning Bible Study group has resumed their study of Galatians. They meet each Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the family room. Everyone is invited to join this study group.

Holy Cross will celebrate and pray for the start of the school year with the “Blessing of the Backpacks” on Sunday, Aug. 9. Please have your children bring their backpacks with them to church.

Sunday School Promotion Sunday will be held on Sunday, Aug. 16.

Faith Lutheran High School The students and staff are preparing for their Annual Camp Lone Star Retreat on Aug. 27-28.
