Highway Blazes Keep Local Firefighters Busy
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Thursday morning around 10:49 am a Ledbetter firefighter requested the Ledbetter Fire Department for a truck fire on US Hwy 290 near Lehman Raymond Rd. The Ledbetter Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene along with Deputy Seth Nagel. Upon arrival it was reported a Penske box truck was fully engulfed and assistance from Carmine Fire Department was requested. The Carmine Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene. Until the fire was extinguished, US Hwy 290 eastbound was closed. There were no reported injuries. The fire started from the rear axle and tire. The truck was empty of contents.
Around 1:40 p.m., Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting another truck fire on St. Hwy 71 E/B near West Point. The La Grange Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene along with Deputy Seth Nagel. Upon arrival an 18 wheeler truck pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with pipe had flames from the rear front axle and tires. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no reported injuries.
