Shiloh Memorial Service The first Sunday in May is the day reserved in many communities for honoring family and friends who have passed away and are buried in local cemeteries. Ron and Pam Knotts try to attend every year at the Shiloh Cemetery north of Hallettsville and this year the weather was perfect for the festivities.

Pam’s relatives have been buried there for four generations ever since the family began arriving in America from Germany in the mid 1800s. The afternoon gathering involves a small service of remembrance, hymn singing and a light lunch of sandwiches and desserts.

The community is lucky to have the old schoolhouse still available and an active committee works diligently to keep it well maintained. Funds are raised every year to take care of the cemetery grounds and the building. This special Memorial Day is always a great time to remember and honor those who went before.
