Gretchen Sacks Awarded Citizenship Award

Lyn Reavis, Post Commander of American Legion Post #338 presents the Citizenship Award and Scholarship to Gretchen Sacks of Round Top-Carmine High School.

At the 2026 Round Top-Carmine High School Academic Banquet held on Wednesday, May 6, American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 presented their 2026 Citizenship Award to Gretchen Sacks.

Miss Sacks was selected for this award based upon her extensive involvement in community events and school activities. In the community, she is involved with the Round Top Rifle Association, the Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation, and the Round Top Do-Your-Duty Club. She has volunteered her time by performing Taps at the Carmine Chamber of Commerce Memorial Day Ceremony and the Round Top-Carmine ISD Veterans Day Ceremony.

As a student, Gretchen has been involved for the past four years with the 4H, FFA and FCCLA clubs. In each club Gretchen has served as an officer. In music, she has been the 1st chair trumpet in the high school band for four consecutive years where she has earned UIL district and regional honors. She is the youngest member of the historic Round Top Brass Band where she performs each year at the Fourth of July Parade.

Gretchen is involved with her church, Bethlehem Lutheran in Round Top, where she uses her music talents playing trumpet performing during Christmas and Easter seasons. She also serves as an acolyte and as a reader of scriptures.

Gretchen has worked at the Round Top Merchantile. Currently, she works as a kennel technician at the Fayette County Vet Clinic and the Burton Vet Clinic Gretchen was awarded this scholarship in the amount of $500 and presented a certificate from the post at the ceremony. She will continue her academic studies this fall at Tarleton State University majoring in Animal Science. Upon graduation she plans to attend graduate school to obtain her degree in veterinary science with an ultimate goal of opening her own practice specializing in large animal medicine.

Gretchen is the daughter of Jacquelyn and Micheal Sacks.
