Governments Approach Hurricane Differently
Theresa Von Rosenberg spoke at Monday’s La Grange City Council meeting to ask the Council about the status of the City’s stormwater drainage improvement project. But first, she thanked the City for remaining open on Monday as the edge of Hurricane Beryl passed over the area.
“I’m so thankful for y’all guys, because y’all are here working while the County is taking off because the weather is bad,” Von Rosenberg said. “But the weather wasn’t bad, thank the Lord.”
Most Fayette County offices closed for the storm, with the exception of emergency services such as EMS and the Sheriff’s Office. The southern and western parts of the County received little to no effects from the storm, while the northeast part of the County received up to two inches of rain and some strong winds. No major damage or power outages were reported here.
Von Rosenberg then asked for an update on the drainage projects. City Manager Jack Thompson reported that the City has applied for a grant from the General Land Office (GLO) to address some of the drainage problems in town. Thompson said the City is waiting for a contract from the GLO.
