Fund Set Up For Family That Lost Home

Two families in West Point lost nearly all of their belongings and their homes in a fire Friday afternoon, Nov. 15.

La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the call came in shortly after 4 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found two residences that were attached together fully engulfed in flames.

Menefee said he was unable to determine how the fire started. All of the residents inside evacuated the structure. There were no injuries.

Menefee called for mutual aid from the Muldoon and Smithville fire departments. The three departments responded with 24 firefighters. They spent nearly four hours extinguishing the fire. The structures were a complete loss.

Anjelica Houston told the Record that her brother and sister, Venessa Houston and Marlin Houston, lived in the two homes along with their families.

“They are devastated about what happened,” she said.
