Former La Grange Resident Appears in Shoe Commercial

Rimi

A young woman with local connections recently appeared in a Famous Footwear commercial.

Rimi, 18, grew up in La Grange and moved to Katy in 2017 after eighth grade. She now attends Texas Tech University, studying political science and sociology. She began taking some acting classes in high school.

Having experience in sports, volunteering, and pageants in her city, Rimi said she wanted to try something new and challenging related to the arts. She also had experience modeling and with fashion shows. She is a featured model for Voguish Magazine and walked a few fashion shows within the Houston area.

“It’s not a simple process,” she said. “Thousands of people apply for these commercial roles.”

Rimi managed to make the cut. The commercial was filmed over a week in the Austin area.

“First we had to take COVID tests, then a day of fittingswhere we tried on like hundreds of outfit combinations chosen by a stylist,” she said. “Then the people from Famous Footwear and the production company chose their top choices. Then another day of COVID testing. Then it was filming day. Plus an entire day traveling to different cities and locations near Austin.”

Filming took place at locations in Austin, Cedar Park and Coupland. The commercial features Rimi and three other smartly-dressed young actors who are going to a high school prom dance.

Rimi sports a bold red pantsuit and a pair of white Nike Air Force tennis shoes. The commercial debuted on April 11.

“I also have an upcoming print campaign for Famous Footwear – posters, billboards, magazines – basically anything where pictures can be published,” she said.

Rimi is no stranger to the spotlight. At Tompkins High School, Rimi was nominated for Fair Queen, Homecoming Queen, and Prom Queen. She has volunteered since middle school at libraries and in high school as one of the youngest volunteer baseball coaches for Little League. She’s also a certified baseball umpire. Right now, Rimi is focused on her education.

“I live day by day,” she said. “Don’t compare your life to others.”
