Firefighting in the Mud
La Grange Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire on property along Loop 220 in Plum Tuesday afternoon. They got the call around 4 p.m. The first fire truck that arrived pulled off the driveway to begin attacking the fire, but the truck got stuck in a muddy spot where water drains on the property. The heavy rig sank in the mud. Firefighters pulled just about all the hose they had on the truck to reach the flames. They managed to put out the fire with the help of the property owner, who fought the fire with hand-held sprayers. Once the fire was under control, Fire Chief Frank Menefee tried pulling out the stuck fire truck with his command vehicle, but it wouldn’t budge. The property owner eventually pulled the rig out with a tractor. The pasture caught fire from a small brush fire that got out of control (pictured at the bottom). Photos by Andy Behlen
