The Fayette County Firefighters Association hosted a training session on tender shuttle operations in La Grange on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13-14.

Twenty-three firefighters from eight nearby departments participated. The training was led by an instructor from Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) along with Fire Chief Stephen Kelly of the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department and Asst. Chief James Robinson from Flatonia Fire and Rescue.

The training involved pumping water out of the Colorado River at the boat ramp and transporting it across town in tanker trucks. Crews then sprayed the water back into the river at White Rock Park.

“We were simulating a large situation where we would need a massive amount of continuous water.” Kelly said.

He said the training also provided good practice for tanker crews responding to smaller fires.

Personnel from the following departments participated: Flatonia Fire and Rescue, Muldoon VFD, La Grange VFD, Ledbetter VFD, Waelder VFD, Giddings VFD, Bastrop Emergency Services District (ESD) 1 and Bastrop-Travis County ESD 1.
