Museum Donations/Questions
Our local museum is asking for new donations to add to the special collections. Priority is being placed on old school yearbooks. These can be given to Debbie Pflughaupt or Bob McGowen. There’s a substantial collection of yearbooks from FISD but a few years are missing. Depending on the year, there were two names: Bluebonnet (until 1966) and then The Lions from 1967 until present day.
For those labeled Bluebonnet, they need them dated before 1937 and from 1944, 1947 1951, 1956, 1958, 1960 and 1964. For The Lions, they need the years 2001, 2003-4, 2009, 2011 and both from 2017.
They are also requesting yearbooks from St. John’s Catholic School. They only have the years from 1950-52. The school closed in 1964 or 1965.
And reach out to Bob if you know the answers to these two questions:
1. When did the school change school colors from gold to maroon?
2. Does anyone know why the name changed from Bluebonnet to Lions?

Fayetteville Park Project
Mark your calendars to get involved in sprucing up a new addition to our community. Initial plans for the Fayetteville Park Project include a little clean-up of the park (cutting back bamboo and overgrown Ligustrum) a few weeks from now on Saturday morning, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. All are welcome to bring small chain saws, heavy clippers and your enthusiasm for adding to the beauty of our small town.
The park, about a half-acre in size, was recently donated to the city for community use by Fayette County resident Martin Payne. It’s located on E. Franklin St. To get there from Hwy 159, turn on FM 1291, pass the post office and turn left onto E. Franklin before the railroad tracks. The park is at end of the road. Curbwork
The curb in the parking area by the old fire station on Hwy 159 has been removed to help address the increase in unnecessary commercial vehicle traffic through Fayetteville. The removal of the curb provides access for performing commercial vehicle inspections in the near future.
KC BBQ
Every second Sunday of the month the Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus Council 3168 serves up butterflied chicken, sausage links and a rack of ribs. This month, it’s Feb. 13 so call your order into the Knights of Columbus Order Line at (972) 249-6003. Pick up begins at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s. Cash or checks accepted.
Janice Teinert has opened 955 Antiques on the corner of FM 955 and Schumacher at 4110 FM 955. She’s open most weekends. Look for the heart wreath on the door.
A new exhibit is opening this Saturday, Feb. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Red and White Gallery. The Chapman Collection will feature a vast collection of works from Mark Chapman. The collection includes works from the 19th century, contemporary abstracts and bronze casts, including a bust by Rodin. Landscapes, still life paintings, portraits and old world scenes will be featured—many in elaborate and exquisite frames.
