Spring Break Travels

Students Ainsley and Adeline Murphy and teacher Tara Murphy visited Nacogdoches over spring break. They’re pictured in front of the replica of the Old Stone Fort on the SFA campus. Built in 1780 as a mercantile trading house, the Old Stone Fort was the site of two separate declarations of independence from Mexico during filibuster expeditions and the Fredonia Rebellion of 1826.

Students Emily Keilers (grade 7) and Ethan Keilers(grade 4) traveled to San Antonio and visited Mission San Jose, the Alamo, the Menger Hotel and the Buckhorn Saloon.

Downtown News

Two new storefronts totaling approximately 1,800 sq. ft. are now available for rent on the square, due to the expansion of the Vintage Rose Market. Previously, the space was part of the hardware section of Jerry’s General Store next door to the Vintage Rose.

“We have a lot of people interested in what’s going on in the square, especially with the new community center right across the street. This space is ideal for a coffee/bake shop. I wonder if anyone remembers the old store, Serendipity, in the square about seven years ago. We also really enjoyed The Good Gulp in the old Gulf Station,” stated Judy Kurtz, proprietor.

“During renovation, we discovered a ramp underneath the floor that proved there were originally two separate spaces. We’re respecting the old space by keeping the original floors and ceilings and using a lot of the old wood.”

If you haven’t experienced the Vintage Rose Market, stop by. You’ll get an idea of how beautifully restored these two new spaces will be, once completed.

Garlic Gator

Owners of Fayettevillebased Solitario Products LLC recently exhibited at the International Housewares Show in Chicago. Despite attendance being about a third of pre-COVID levels, Martin Payne reported strong interest in Solitario’s Garlic Gator (a garlic and multivegetable mincing tool). Payne is co-inventor of the tool. The owners collected purchase orders from new gourmet kitchen and hardware store customers and received promising business development contacts, including one from a major retailer.
