The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association met Monday, Sept. 8 at the New Life Methodist Church in La Grange, with 22 members in attendance. Members enjoyed an ice cream social with many toppings and sweet treats.

Lisa Slinkard led the pledges to the national and state flags, and new co- presidents Peggy Halamicek and Terry Wagner were introduced to the group. Carolyn West was appointed as the membership benefits representative, and will update members on benefits including the U Card and travel deals.

The business portion of the meeting included a treasurer’s report (Chris Morrison) and a display of all the membership materials provided with the District 13 grant. A preview of the quick reference sheet was presented to members, which is intended to replace the directory and provide meeting information at a glance. Peggy Halamicek displayed the gift basket containing a wide variety of Fayette County merchandise to be presented at the TRTA District 13 conference. Three new members were welcomed: Karla Klyng, Mary K. Seifert, and Marge Shofner.

While the name implies “teachers only” all retired public school employees are welcome, including those from other districts.
