Fayette County Czech Heritage Society Holds Piknik Meeting
The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met June 9 at Hanslik Hall in the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange for its annual Piknik Meeting.
Members enjoyed a meal of sausage wraps, side dishes, and desserts, along with Czech songs accompanied by accordion music and a silent auction.
During the meeting, reports were presented on the chapter’s April fundraiser at the La Grange Farmers Market, as well as the Czech Heritage Society of Texas Queen and Youth Royalty Pageant, held on June 6 in San Antonio.
The Amos Pavlik Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 was presented to Clara Magliolo, a recent graduate of Schulenburg High School. Magliolo shared her scholarship essay, which reflected on growing up with Czech tradi-tions through family recipes, festivals, church picnics, and community activities. She will attend Texas A&M University this fall, majoring in Business with a minor in Horticulture.
The piknik concluded with Czech-English Bingo and fellowship among members and guests.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 20.
