Father & Son Skydiving For Habitat Fundraiser

Father & Son Skydiving For Habitat Fundraiser

The old saying like father, like son, couldn’t be more true for Roger and Ben Sustr. The Sustr’s who are from Schulenburg and are self-proclaimed adrenaline junkies have decided to prove this saying by jumping this year for the 2nd Annual Habitat “Leap of Faith” Skydiving Fundraiser on April 24. However in this case it might be like son, like father since Ben jumped in last year’s skydiving fundraiser.

“I’ve always wanted to do it and I enjoyed it so much last year for one. The jump itself was exhilarating, a major adrenaline rush. Secondly, I enjoy helping and donating to local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity,” said Ben on why he decided to jump again. Ben, 39, has been married for six years to his wife Brooke, has three children, and owns and operates Sustr’s Air Conditioning & Heating LLC.

Roger, 65, has been married for almost 42 years to his wife Sheri, has three children, seven grandchildren, and is now an independent property & casualty insurance broker and real estate agent with Tri-County Realty LLC thought it was about time he jumped out of a plane and follow in his son’s footsteps.

“Ben wanted me to jump with him a few years ago and we passed at that time. So last year Ben jumped and wanted me to jump also but with a few more ailments from old injuries I was a little skeptical about the landing at my age so I wanted to see the landings, all looked pretty soft and normal. Another year goes by and Ben asked me, now being the third time, and I said yes, let’s do it,” said Roger. “I love adventure, I love the rush so I know am going to love it!”

Amongst their shared love for adventure-seeking, they have also found that they are the same in more ways than one. “We are a father and son with many of the same interests and similarities, sometimes maybe too many similarities,” Roger said jokingly. “We are both Type A personalities and our hands may get in each other’s way. Both are so eager to put our hands on the task at hand. While we have our spats, we are very close. We also both have a work ethic second to none, and of course, we love each other very deeply.” Skydiving isn’t the only adventurous thing these two have been wanting to do together. In the meantime, they have found other ways to be adrenaline junkies together. Roger said, “For years now we have also ridden motorcycles together. Each and every motorcycle trip has its own fun and adventure with stories to tell.” Ben added, “Nothing quite compares to skydiving, to be honest, so I’m excited for my dad to finally be able to jump.”

If you would like to support this inspiring father-son skydiving team you can visit www.fayettecountyhabitat.org or email info@fayettecountyhabitat.org. “As we support Habitat we need your support too so donate to the father-son team jumping for Habitat! Habitat is such a worthy cause helping families help themselves have an affordable place to call home,” said the Sustrs, a family helping families.
