Exhibit ‘Connective Tissue’ Opens Saturday at ARTS Ross Gallery

‘Connective Tissue,’a solo exhibition by Sierra Bailey, opens this Saturday, March 8, at the ARTS Ross Gallery. An opening reception will be held from 4 – 6 p.m.. This exhibition features bold contemporary works rich in color and texture.

Heavily influenced by Abstract Expressionism, Sierra’s work uses color and gestural mark-making to convey emotion. “I have continuously explored the use of color, texture, textiles, and energy in my work for my entire career, although never all together,” she explains. “This series was the first to combine all the elements from my work over my career and weave them together.”

Inspired by themes of community, gathering, and connection, this collection developed alongside Sierra’s founding of Maeve House, a private social club in south-west Austin for coworking and events. “While building a community in person, I was creating with my hands the visual representation of how the work of creating connections made me feel energetically,” she says. “I gathered and connected multiple mediums to create little communities within each piece.”

Over the last 30 years, Sierra has established herself as a multidisciplinary artist, working as a painter, jewelry designer, author, and even a candy maker. Her work has appeared in over 60 national magazines, many local news outlets, music videos, and on popular television shows like Gossip Girl and Criminal Minds. Her designs have also graced the runways of Austin and LA Fashion Weeks.
