Exciting Week Ahead at Senior Connections
Senior Connections, the vibrant activity center for individuals aged 55 and up, is gearing up for an exciting week of games, delicious meals, and engaging speakers.
Starting March 17 in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, doors open at 9 a.m. to kick off the festivities, welcoming members to enjoy their favorite games of dominoes and cards while our dedicated team prepares a hearty lunch. The meal will feature vegetable soup, turkey sliders, fresh house salad, and a delightful dessert from one of our talented members. In the spirit of community, today also marks the “Cookie Round-Up.” We encourage everyone to bring homemade cookies by 11 a.m. which Amanda or Stephanie will share with with community supporters later.
After a hearty meal, our Lunch and Learn program will feature Diana Mikesky, the board president of the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. Diana will share insights on upcoming activities, including the much-anticipated Sausage Fest. Following her presentation, a representative from Shady Oaks Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Moulton, will join us to call Bingo, adding more fun to our afternoon.
On Tuesday, March 18, the excitement continues as we move to Weimar’s First United Methodist Church. Members are invited to gather at 9 a.m. for more games and camaraderie before indulging in a delicious meal of chicken parmesan over pasta, served with garlic bread and a house salad. We are incredibly grateful to Linda Heller, who, despite a sprained wrist, will be preparing a scrumptious dessert for everyone to enjoy.
Our Lunch and Learn speaker for the day, local author Betsy Wagner from Columbus, will share a story/ poem from her book explor-ing Texas history, igniting a passion for the Lone Star State. Betsy’s captivating storytelling may inspire a group trip to Gonzales this May; we hope to have her as our tour guide. At 12:30 p.m. Takeshia Hodge from Columbus Oaks Nursing Home will join for another lively bingo session, perhaps bringing along some of her residents for added fun.
Returning to Schulenburg on Wednesday, March 19 we will feast on mouthwatering fried chicken from Oak Ridge Smokehouse, complemented by butter potatoes and our house salad by our volunteers, and a birthday cake by the fabulous Debbie Schindler. This day also marks our monthly birthday celebration, where we honor our members with birthday cards and a special photo moment featuring the beautifully baked cake.
Following this delicious lunch, police Chief Brenek will give a brief refresher on personal safety. There have been a few alarming incidents in our area, and we hope to find the best way to keep ourselves safe in any situation.
Following this enlightenment, we will dive into bingo with a new caller from PAM, Health Specialty and Rehabilitation Hospital in Luling. March brings us many changes in our bingo lineup, so Stephanie, their inpatient navigator, will be our gal.
On Thursday, March 20, a memorable adventure is planned: a trip to the Flatonia Train Museum, lunch at Darlin’s Diner, and a train-themed movie at the Lyric Theater.
Finally, we’ll meet at Arts for Rural Texas on Friday for our weekly art classes. Claire Lewis will continue her calligraphy lessons, while Stephanie Shroyer will receive artwork for our upcoming art show, “Ageless Artistry,” set for April 12. This show is an opportunity for all our creative members to display their talents and will take place at 1203 Kessler Ave. from 3-5 p.m. We invite all artistic members to contact Stephanie Shroyer at (979) 702-1246 if they wish to showcase their work.
