Exciting Activities Await at Senior Connections
Senior Connections is the gathering place for active seniors in Fayette County, Colorado County, and Lavaca County. Everyone aged 55 and up are welcome to our Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia locations. Doors are open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on program days. Feel free to drop by anytime.
On Monday, June 23, programs take place in Schulenburg at Walters Park, 1111 Bohlmann Ave.
Start your week with a morning filled with fun games. Join for dominoes, sequence, puzzle building, and other games designed to keep your mind sharp. If games aren’t your thing, come by for a friendly chat and enjoy a cup of coffee served by dedicated volunteers. Lunch preparations begin at 11:15 a.m. with a delicious home-cooked meal featuring Sloppy Joes made with high-quality beef from the Texas Beef Initiative, paired with Kathy Carpenter’s famous dill pickle pasta salad, chips, and a dessert lovingly prepared by our members.
Don’t miss the days Lunch and Learn with David Will, a specialist in natural medicine, who will share his insights with us. Bingo will follow the presentation with Payton Steele with Amedisys Home Health. Let’s see who wins the blackout prize.
Join on Tuesday, June 24 at Flatonia Methodist Church, 403 E. North Main St.
Grab your coffee. It will be hot starting at 9 a.m. Then join for chair exercises at 9:45 a.m. featuring yoga and tai chi. You can also jump into a domino game or work on a puzzle. Our home-cooked lunch includes a comforting chicken pot pie, a fresh salad, garlic bread, and dessert from Helen Steinhauser. Jill Beck from the Flatonia Chamber of Commerce will be our guest speaker for Lunch and Learn, providing insights into her journey as president and upcoming events. We are thrilled to have Sherry Haas calling our Bingo game.
Join on Wednesday, June 25 back in Schulenburg. We’ll have a packed house today as we serve fried chicken and butter potatoes from Oakridge Smokehouse. Our volunteers will prepare salad and desserts, which our members contribute to complete the meal. After lunch, Deanie Crim from Schulenberg Family Fitness will join us to call Bingo, and her presence always brings joy to our gatherings.
Adventure day is on Thursday, June 26. Prepare for a fun-filled outing as we carpool to La Grange to visit the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives in the morning. After the visit we will have lunch at Reba’s Pizza and then a tour of the Quilt Museum in the afternoon. If you want to join this adventure, contact the office at (979) 743-3227 to sign up. You can meet us there, be a passenger, or volunteer to drive.
On Friday, June 27, enjoy the final Watercolor Class. This is the final session of the watercolor course. We have a big treat for our students. Stephen Henry, a talented watercolor artist, will teach our class for the day. If you are not a registered student for the watercolor class, feel free to bring your journals or any project you’d like to work on and become part of our creative community. Next month, Jamie Janda will continue with the art/junk/journal project, and all are welcome to join.
During June and July, art classes meet at the Senior Connection Center in Schulenburg, 1111 Bohlmann Ave, from 10-noon. Arts For Rural Texas has summer camps for kids at the art center.
