Ellinger Tomato Festival Slated May 27
Rhegan Karisch and her steer, Ash, placed fourth in the light weight division and won Champion Junior Steer Showmanship at the Fayette County Junior Livestock Show.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 85th Annual Tomato Festival, the last weekend in May. The fun gets underway on Friday, May 27, with the following competitions: a Chef’s Choice Entrée, desserts, chips and salsa, and margarita contests.

Entertainment on Friday will be provided by the Ledershosen Junkies from 8 to 11 p.m. The BBQ cookoff is Saturday, May 28; competitors will cook brisket, chicken, pork spare ribs, pork butts, and pinto beans. There will also be a farmer’s breakfast and Bloody Mary contest, and a chopped challenge.

Additionally there will be a live auction and drawing for the raffle winners. This year will also feature a Tomato Trot 5K fun run. Live music on Saturday will be provided by The Bandits.

On Sunday locals will be cooking and serving fried chicken and sausage along with delicious sides. Serving gets underway at 10:30 a.m. and plates will be $12.

Ellinger Chamber

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring Bingo on Saturday, April 9. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, and delicious desserts will also be sold. There will be two $500 jackpots and fifteen regular games worth $1500 in prizes - $100 pay off per game. For more information, visit ellingertexas.com.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 12, at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Community Center.

Junior Livestock Show

The Fayette County Junior Livestock Show was held on Friday, March 25, at the Fayette County Fair Grounds. After two years of an abbreviated show it went on as “normal”. Hats off to Fayette County friends and businesses that supported all the exhibitors.

Rheagan Karisch had several entries at this year’s FCJLS. Her black steer, Ash, placed fourth in the light weight division, but the pair won Champion Junior Steer Showmanship. Rheagan showed her beefmaster heifers and wonfirst with Grace, second with Bellamee, and Champion Commercial Heifer with Mae. Mae will be exhibited and sold at this year’s Fayette County Commercial Heifer Show in September. Congratulations to this dedicated showman and to all the 4 H and FFA exhibitors. They were all awesome.

Ellinger Sewer & Water

The Annual meeting of the Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply is scheduled for April 28, at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Community Center Dining Hall. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 11, at the Ellinger Fire Station.

Ellinger VFD

The Ellinger VFD will hold its next regular meeting on Wednesday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. It will drill on Wednesday, April 20, at 7 p.m.

The Ellinger VFD firemen were dispatched to a vehicle fire at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, near Power Plant Rd. and state Hwy. 71. The fire was quickly extinguished, but traffic was backed up for a few miles.

Shared Lutheran Ministry

The Shared Lutheran Ministry congregations will gather for worship on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. (no soup suppers). Pastors from the Conference will have a pulpit exchange. That means a different local Lutheran pastor will lead worship and bring the message. Additionally, the 6:30 p.m. service will be live stream on Facebook. Midweek services will rotate among the four churches of the SLM as follows: March 30-Ellinger at 6:30 p.m.; April 6-Warrenton at 6:30 p.m.; Maundy Thursday-April 14-Rutersville at 6:30 p.m. Good Friday worship will be as follows: April 15-Ellinger at noon; and Fayetteville at 6:30 p.m. Easter services will be at all four churches at their regular times. The SLM will have a joint worship on Palm Sunday, April 10 at 10 a.m. at the Carby Chapel at Lutherhill.

Fayetteville Brethren Church

Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Face book page.

The Fayetteville Brethren has announced the following Lenten Worship Schedule: March 30-Industry at 6:30 p.m. with a spaghetti meal; Maundy Thursday, April 14-Nelsonville at 6:30 p.m.; Good Friday, April 15-Wesley at 6:30 a.m. carrying of the cross, fellowship breakfast. There will be an Easter service at Fayetteville on Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m.

Ellinger VFD Feast

The Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting its annual feast and fundraiser on Sunday, April 24, at the Ellinger Community Center.

Plates to go will be $12 and serving will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Ellinger Community Center. Firemen and community volunteers will be preparing a barbeque chicken and sausage lunch with all the trimmings. They will be serving in the hall beginning at 11 a.m. You may also get plates from the drive thru line beginning at 10:30 a.m. BBQ chicken to go will also be sold at the pits for $10 per chicken. The price for the meal is $12 per plate.

There will also be a live auction under the pavilion starting at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase new firefighting equipment.

Brandt Funeral

Tom Kubena and Larry Bartosh from Ellinger attended the funeral of their classmate and friend Donald Lee Brandt. In all there were eighteen members of the La Grange High School class of 1965 who attended. Tom was one of the pallbearers and shared a few fond memories of his friend and teammate. Donald will be missed by his wife Darla, family members and his friends.
