Ellinger Chamber Hall Hosting Bingo Saturday
Bingo will be held at the Ellinger Chamber Hall, 104 West Colorado Sky Street on Saturday, Feb. 15 with doors opening at 4 p.m. The kitchen will open at 5 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. Hamburgers, hotdogs, nachos, desserts and refreshments will be served.
Shared Lutheran Ministry
Fat Tuesday pancake supper will be held on Tuesday, March 4 at St. Paul in Fayetteville starting at 5:30 p.m. All you can eat pancakes, sausage and beverages will be served. This free will offering will benefit the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department.
Worship services are still offered on Facebook, You Tube and KTIM 89.1 on Sundays at noon. Ellinger has worship every Sunday at 8 a.m. with communion.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church
St. Mary’s Catholic Church Mass is every Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m.
Brethren Church
Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.
Hermann Sons
Ellinger Hermann Sons Life will have a meeting on Monday, Feb. 17 at the Ellinger Fire Station at 6 p.m.
LGISD
There will be no classes on Monday, Feb. 17 in observance of Presidents’ Day. The teachers will have a Purposeful Focus Day.
Condolences
Ellinger mourns the loss of longtime resident David Gene Cernoch. David was born Sept. 13, 1956 and passed away on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025. He leaves behind wife Nancy, and children Melissa and Royce Shade, Laura and Jarrod Behrens, Jenna and April Cernoch, Dino and Lisa Hoelscher and Becky and David Byte.
David spent countless hours as a member of the Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department and Ellinger Chamber of Commerce. He served as President of the chamber and dedicated to the betterment of the community. David would stay until the late night closing the hall after a band and him and Nancy drove many miles putting out posters for the chamber for upcoming events. Long before the days of social media, they would travel to neighboring towns to put out these posters. David would talk to anyone at the hall, his yard or around town. He truly never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors and always had a smile. May he rest in peace.
Gene Moellenberg, brother of Lucille Koehl and uncle of Wayne Kocian, EJ Koehl and Laura Brugger, passed away on Jan. 26, just a few days short of his 80th birthday on Feb. 1. Father Hieu Nguyen led the funeral service on Monday, Feb. 3 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Houston. Son Jason Moellenberg and sister-in-law Debbie Ogle read the readings. The offering of gifts was done by children of daughter, Julie Cisneros and Jason. A barbecue lunch was held afterwards.
On Tuesday at 11 a.m., Uncle Gene was laid to rest at the Rutersville Cemetery. Fellow veterans participating in the performance of military honors represented the Vietnam Veterans Post, the Giddings American Legion Post, the La Grange American Legion Post, and the La Grange VFW Post. The Giddings American Legion Post preformed a 21 gun salute, which is a high honor rendered for a deceased veteran. Active Navy personnel were present to perform the usual graveside military honors, including the formal folding of the US flag and playing of taps. The Lieutenant Commander in charge presented the flag to Margaret, the surviving spouse. Several Vietnam veterans were present to pay their respects to a fellow Vietnam veteran. Pastor Jen Kindsvatter of Shared Lutheran Ministry led the service which included the prayer, scripture, commendation and committal.
Pallbearers were Wayne Kocian, EJ Koehl, Chris Brugger, Robbie Ogle, Vince Dessardo, and George Bilnoski.
A lunch was held afterwards at the Hermann Sons lodge in Rutersville with sandwiches, chips, dips, fruit and vegetable trays and desserts.
