DPS Releases Report of Fatal Motorcycle Accident
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) released details about the motorcycle wreck that left a local man dead last Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The crash happened approximately 6:07 p.m.
According to the DPS report, Bradley Raymond Votaw, 43 of La Grange, was driving a 2019 Yamaha motorcycle southeast on FM 155. He was wearing a helmet, the report said. Carol Keilers Jenkins, 75 of La Grange, was driving a gray 2018 Chevy Equinox northwest on FM 155.
The report said Jenkins attempted to turn left and enter the parking lot of Post Oak Inn as the motorcycle was approaching. The two vehicles collided. The front right corner of the SUV struck the front of the motorcycle.
Votaw was ejected and died at the scene, the report said.
“A faulty evasive action may have contributed to the crash because the (Chevy) driver stated she tried to speed up to miss (the motorcycle),” the report said.
The Chevy came to rest off the roadway facing southwest. The motorcycle came to rest on its side facing northwest.
Trooper Jon Martinez with the Texas Highway Patrol investigated the crash. Martinez cited Jenkins for failure to yield the right of way.
