Domino Tournament, Fried Chicken Dinner Sunday in Winchester
The date for the annual domino tournament held by the Winchester Area Civic Association has been set for Sunday, Feb. 20. A fried chicken dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner will be $12 a plate and to go orders will be available.
Registration for the Domino Tournament with both Straight and 42 will begin at 12:30 p.m. with start time at 1 pm. The event will be at the St. Michael’s Park Pavilion in Winchester and is BYOB.
A silent auction is planned and anyone wishing to donate items may bring them to the Park Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 9 a.m. Proceeds benefit local charities and scholarships.

Winchester Area VFD
On March 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Zilss Hall, WAVFD supporters will meet to once again pledge their willingness to assist the department when asked to do so. Election of board officers and business related to the operation of the department will also be held. If you are interested in serving as a board member or helping as a general member, this is the meeting to attend. Supporters will start assembling at 6 p.m. with the business meeting at 6:30 p.m. BYOB.
Winchester Book Club
The Winchester Round Table Book Club will meet on Feb. 15, 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall. The book on the reading list for the month of February is “The Last Thing He Told Me” by Laura Dave. Please come and join in the discussion.
Recycling Trailer
The Winchester recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall St. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow.
Barn Board Quilt Paint Classes
Classes are scheduled for Feb. 12, Feb. 26, and March 10. There are some spots available if anyone would like to take a class. Each class will begin at 10 a.m. and will be completed by 4 p.m. The cost of the class is $75, and you can register and pay on the website, www.quiltblocktrail.com. All supplies are provided. Barn Board Quilt Trail
Drive out to Winchester, pick up a map at Murphy’s or Zilss Hall and enjoy viewing the 65 quilt blocks displayed in our area. The trail is self-drive, available at your convenience, and is a great way to spend an afternoon viewing quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps can be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange.
Zilss Community Hall
Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is following COVID-19 requirements. Rent is very reasonable.
The Little Free Library
The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event, you would like to advertise, please post.

The weekly worship service takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary.
