Deputy Recovers Stolen Vehicle

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Deputy Jared Michalec responded to a call of a stolen vehicle in the Fayetteville area. The owner advised they had parked the vehicle, running, with the key in the ignition, and gone into a business and when they returned the vehicle was gone.

While investigating Deputy Michalec received information on a possible location of the vehicle and found it unoccupied and apparently rummaged through. Several Amazon packages containing a significant number of books had been taken from the vehicle prior to it being abandoned. The vehicle was returned to the owner and a report completed. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office or the Fayette County Crime Stoppers program.

As a general crime prevention tip we encourage the community never to leave your vehicle unlocked, running or not, or to leave the main or spare key in the vehicle. If possible avoid leaving valuables or packages inside the vehicle particularly where they can be seen from the outside.
