Deputies From Area Counties Help Detain Suspect
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on On Monday, Feb. 7 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a 2018 blue Dodge Charger for an equipment violation near I-10 eastbound mile marker 668.
The vehicle initially pulled over but as Meagher approached the vehicle, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued that lasted for approximately 20 miles. Colorado County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tyler Pavlicek was able to deploy spike strips (tire deflation device) which successfully disabled the vehicle’s front tires. The vehicle then crashed into the center guard rail at the 688 Eastbound mile marker. The driver fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by Meagher.
Inside the vehicle, Deputies located a .223 cal./5.56 mm AR-style rifle that was reported stolen out of San Antonio. The driver identified as Jaylen David Harper, 21 of San Antonio, was also wanted on a felony warrant for evading arrest with a Vehicle out of Bexar County. Meagher also located marijuana inside the vehicle. Harper was placed into custody for evading arrest with a vehicle, theft of a firearm, possession of marijuana less than two ounces and the felony warrant.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department extends its gratitude to the Schulenburg Police Department, Weimar Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
