On-Demand Bus Service Arrives in City of La Grange

The Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) launched a new on-demand transit service, CARTS NOW, in La Grange on Sept. 3. With successful programs in Bastrop, Taylor, Lockhart, and Marble Falls (with an average daily ridership of over 100 passenger trips daily), CARTS is excited to expand to La Grange, offering curb-to-curb rides within city limits. To celebrate, CARTS will host a ribbon-cutting with the La Grange Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 11:45 a.m. before the Chamber Board meeting, where residents can meet drivers, explore the vans, and learn about additional services.

David Marsh, CARTS’ director, said, “After strong community response in other cities, we’re thrilled to bring this service to La Grange.” The CARTS Now service operates in La Grange Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. For the first 90 days, rides are free. Riders can request a ride via an app, which functions like a rideshare app, or by calling (512) 505-5666.

“La Grange is thrilled to welcome CARTS’new on-demand service to our city. This innovative service offers our community a safe, efficient, and affordable way to get around La Grange. I strongly encourage all our residents to take advantage of this convenient transportation option,” said La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery The convenient app-based booking option is powered by Via, the global leader in TransitTech. Via’s app uses intelligent algorithms to match multiple riders headed in the same direction to provide quick and efficient shared trips, without fixed schedules or routes associated with traditional transit options.
