Dan Mueller Wins Heated County Judge Runoff

Dan Mueller Wins Heated County Judge Runoff

Fayette County Republican voters picked Dan Mueller as their candidate in the Fayette County Judge race.

Mueller defeated his opponent Craig Moreau in the primary runoff with 55.57 percent of the vote, according to unofficial election night results. The unofficial vote count was 2,713 for Mueller and 2,169 for Moreau.

“I take the election results as a victory for the people,” Mueller told the Record on Wednesday morning. “I know that with any taxing entity, there will be challenges that lie ahead. But that’s OK. Here in Fayette County we like a good challenge. I look forward to working with the four commissioners to serve the people.”

Mueller will face Libertarian Party candidate Will Martin in the Nov. 8 general election.

“The people are probably tired of these elections,” Mueller said. “That’s the process we as citizens go through. There will be another election in November. I will face an opponent on the Libertarian ticket. I look forward to the challenge.”

Moreau won four of the County’s 12 voting precincts: La Grange East, La Grange West, Fayetteville and Round Top. His biggest base of support came in the La Grange East precincts, which he won with 54.24 percent of the vote. It wasn’t enough to overcome Mueller’s strong support in the southern part of the County. Mueller won the Schulenburg, Flatonia, Ammannsville, Holman and Cistern precincts with more than 60 percent. Schulenburg area voters picked Mueller by nearly two-to-one over Moreau.

“Thank you to the thousands of voters that responded to my platform of Safety, Community, and Prosperity,” Moreau told the Record on Wednesday. “The race was very close, and although it did not turn out the way I had hoped, I’m grateful that we live in a country that allows us to choose.

“We ran a campaign that I am proud of and did not engage in negativity,” Moreau added. “I focused on the issues that matter to Fayette County and ways I know I can make a difference. My hope is that all candidates for office will pledge to do the same. America needs to have confidence in their leaders, and honorable campaigns are the first step.”

Moreau said he may consider another run for office in the future.

“I will be exploring what options exist to serve others,” he said. “If there is an elected position that will be beneficial to the citizens, I will run.”

Moreau said he wants to continue in his position as Fayette County Chief of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

“I plan to continue working hard for the county in my position as Chief of Emergency Management and Homeland Security,” he said. “Additionally, I will continue to work hard for the charities I serve. When the next freeze, flood or disaster occurs I will be here, and will be preparing daily for the challenges. In light of Tuesday’s massacre in Uvalde, I will expand the Active Attacker training to the public and to responders.”

The Record asked Mueller about the future of the County’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security office if he is elected in November.

“Like anything else that I tackle in life, I don’t try to solve a problem unless there is a problem,” Mueller said. “I don’t have any preconceived notions about what’s going to happen to that position. I have no animosity. I have malice toward no one.”
