Crash at Intersection Day Before Lights Go Up

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of SH 159 and the Highway 71 Bypass in La Grange Tuesday evening, just one day before the state activated new traffic lights at that intersection. La Grange Police Capt. Troy Stevens reported that the wreck took place around 5:32 p.m. on Feb. 18. A white 2020 Lincoln NKZ was traveling west on the Hwy. 71 feeder road in front of Whataburger. The Lincoln had stopped for the flashing red light at the intersection, but then it took off into the intersection. The Lincoln collided with a white 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 that was heading into La Grange on SH 159. All parties declined EMS transport. Police cited the driver of the Lincoln for failure to yield the right of way.

Texas Department of Transportation activated the new traffic signals according to schedule on the following day, Wednesday, Feb. 19. Motorist on SH 159 should be prepared to stop for the new red light.
