It’s that time of year once again. The Round Top Festival Institute will present Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic ballet, The Nutcracker. This year’s production celebrates the 16th annual performance danced by Ovation, a youth ballet company in residency at Dancers Workshop in Austin. The legendary ballet will be one show only at the Round Top Festival Institute Concert Hall on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m.
This year’s cast includes 84 dancers ranging from 2nd grade through high school along with several guest dancers. Gavin Warfield will return for his final year to dance the lead role as the Nutcracker Prince. The coveted
of Sugar Plum Fairy will be danced by Aubrey Phu. Clara will be danced by Morgan Ormiston. Brendan Rodriguez will reprise his role as Herr Drosselmeyer in Act I and Arabian lead in Act II. Naomi Cappabianca, former company member and current member of the faculty at Dancers Workshop, will dance a cameo performance as Mother Ginger with all her Bonbons in Act II. This year’s artistic staff includes Kristi Stere, Julia Dzubinski, Emily Karnes as company directors and Lily Collier, Rehearsal Assistant. Former dancer and now professional lighting designer, Nikolay Korygin, will once again design the lighting.
Costumes for the Party Scene Act I have been refreshed this year. Baby mice will have new costumes. A special nightgown has been created for Clara to wear as she dances through her dream. Due to the large size of this year’s cast, Peppermints have been added into Act II along with the trio of Mints. This memorable story ballet has something for everyone - dancing party guests, menacing rats, soldiers brandishing candy canes, graceful snowflakes, the handsome Nutcracker Prince and, the most famous holiday favorite, the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Seating is general admission. Doors open at 3 p.m. Reserved handicapped seating is available by calling the office. Special discount pricing is available to groups of 20 or more. This ballet performance, danced by children for children of any age, will kick off your holiday season with the joy of dance.
