County Gearing Up For a Meaningful Memorial Day

Monday, May 25 marks Memorial Day – the day to honor U.S. service members who died serving their country. Several Memorial Day Services will take place around the County.

On Sunday, May 24, the Flatonia American Legion will host a Memorial Day Service at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia, beginning at noon.

On Monday, May 25, Koenig-Belvil Funeral Home in La Grange will hold their annual Memorial Day Service starting at 10 a.m. There will be a ceremony and service to honor the veterans lost since last Memorial Day. John Bellvil will deliver the Memorial Day Address. There will also be a roll call of deceased veterans.

Also on Monday, veterans organizations in Schulenburg will host a Memorial Day service at Wolters Park starting at 10 a.m. Veterans will assemble at 9:45 a.m. The event will start with a flag raising and then patriotic songs by the band D’Vine Testament. Names of the Schulenburg area veterans who died in conflicts since World War I will be read. Special guest speaker will be Schulenburg City Administrator Tami Walker.

A Memorial Day service in Fayetteville will take place Monday at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Church Pavilion. The guest speaker will be State Senator Lois Kolkhorst.
