Commissioners OK Emergency Burn Ban Here

The Fayette County Commissioners Court on Monday confirmed the emergency burn ban put into effect over the weekend by Judge Dan Mueller.

Mueller placed the County under the ban Saturday in the aftermath of a 15-acre fire near Muldoon Saturday at the urging of several local fire officials. County Emergency management coordinator Angela Hahn told the court that high winds were expected this week.

“It doesn’t take much for a fire to get out of control when the wind is blowing like,” said Commissioners Jason McBroom.

McBroom, Luke Sternadel and Mueller all voted to extend the burn ban. Commissioners Berckenhoff and Brossmann were not present. Violations of the burn ban are punishable by up to a $500 fine. McBroom said people need to pay particular attention to wind speeds to avoid fire dangers at all times.
