City Manager Selection Committee Appointed

The La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery appointed a city manager selection committee at the City Council meeting Monday night, May 23.

City Manager Shawn Raborn announced earlier this month that he plans to retire later this year. The Council met in executive session Monday night to discuss the selections process. Dockery made the appointments after the Council returned to regular session.

The committee will be comprised of the following four Councilmembers: Violet “Patsy” Zbranek, Kathy Weishuhn, Dusty Littrell and Quenten Gonzalez. The other four council members will serves as alternate committee members: Katie Gross, John “Honza” Cernosek, Bonnie Busch and Councilmanelect Arthut Bosque. Bosque, who recently won a special election for a seat on the Council, will take office next month.

In other business Monday night, City Attorney Angela Beck reported that the City plans to file a lawsuit next month against the owners of the old Encore Cabinet building on Eblin Street. If successful, the lawsuit would require the owners to tear down the dilapidated structures over health and safety concerns.

In addition, the Council appointed Shawn Raborn to the City’s MuniGas board of directors. MuniGas is a City of La Grange-owned corporation that buys natural gas on the wholesale market and sells it to other municipal gas utilities. The corporation provides substantial revenue to the City of La Grange. The Council also reappointed former mayor Janet Moerbe to the MuniGas board. The other board members are Glenn Pape and Violet Zbranek.
