The City Manager in Flatonia is Placed on Leave After Complaint

The Flatonia City Council placed City Manager Sonya Bishop on paid administrative leave pending an inquiry into a complaint by a city employee.

The Council reviewed the complaint during a special meeting Monday night, Feb. 17.

“I received a formal written complaint against the City Manager,” said Flatonia Mayor Travis Seale in an interview with the Record Tuesday morning. “So in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and our personnel policy, we met as a Council to assign someone to conduct an administrative inquiry into the complaint.”

Seale told the Record he could not disclose the nature of the complaint at this time due to the ongoing inquiry.

Seale said the City will engage an outside party to conduct the inquiry.

“For the sake of everyone involved, we’re trying to be as expeditious as possible,” Seale said.

“I want to make sure we are fair, impartial and thorough,” Seale added.

The Council plans to meet again next Monday to receive the findings of the inquiry, Seale said.
