Cistern Country Store Big Buck Contest Registration Now Open

Register now at the Cistern Country Store for the 59th Adult Big Buck Contest and the 7th Annual Youth Buck Contest. The registration fee is $20 cash per hunter, accepted between Noon and 8 p.m. daily at the Cistern Country Store, located at 12604 N State Hwy. 95, between Smithville and Flatonia at FM 2237.

Youth and adult contests are for low fence hunting, with rifle or bow, in Fayette and bordering counties. Field dressed bucks must be brought to the store for official measurements to qualify for prizes.

The adult General Season runs Nov. 2, 2024 through Jan. 5, 2025. Cash prizes will be awarded in three categories of the Adult Contest: the heaviest, most points, and the widest inside spread. The deadline to register for the adult contest is Midnight Friday, Nov. 1.

Kettle beef stew will be served at 8 p.m. Nov. 1 to kick off the season, and it is the last chance to sign up on the adult deer board.

The Youth Contest is for ages 16 and under. Cash prizes will be determined by totaling the most points plus inside spread plus length of the longest tine on either side of the main beam.

The youth season is Oct. 25-27, and Nov. 2 through Jan. 19, 2025. The deadline to register for the youth contest is Oct. 24.
