Christmas at Winedale Slated Dec. 15

Mark your calendars for the annual Christmas at Winedale on Dec. 15. Enjoy at 19th century event featuring crafts and folklife demonstrations, a quilt exhibit, musical performances, hayrides, food and beverages and more. This event is free. Winedale is located at 3760 FM 2714 in Round Top.

Historical Society

The 27th Annual Round Top Historical Society’s Christmas Tour of Homes is Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m.5 p.m. Tour six beautiful properties featuring seven homes, all decorated for Christmas. Tickets can be purchased during business hours at Round Top Real Estate, or the day of the tour at the Round Top Historical Campus. Visit rtahs. com to purchase tickets or for more information.

Round Top-Carmine ISD A band concert will be held at Festival Hill Monday, Dec. 2, beginning at 6 p.m. Students will have an early release on Wednesday, Dec. 18 – busses will run at 12:30 p.m. There will be no school until Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Local Events

There will be a Vendor Market this Saturday, Nov. 30 at Busted Oak Cellars from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Dec. 4-8 is the Round Top En Plein Air Invitational and Art Experience. Experience legendary Round Top in painted glory as nine artists compete in four days of competition, demonstrations and studio tours. The first Christkindl Market at The Compound will be Dec. 6-8. There will be unique gifts, holiday décor, seasonal food and drink, Christmas music and more. This event benefits the Round Top-Carmine Schools. If you would like to be a vendor contact roundtopcompound@ gmail.com.

Lighted Christmas Parade Round Top’s Annual Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 7. Shopping begins at 10 a.m. around town. Activities on the Square begin at 3 p.m., and the parade starts at 6:45 p.m. Special thanks to “The Do Your Duty Club”, The Round Top Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Round Top Family Library for organizing the parade.

The Chamber of Commerce’s monthly social will be Thursday, Dec. 12 from 5-7 p.m. Stay tuned for details on the location.

This year’s Quilt Exhibit is titled “An Intimate Bond: Clothing and Quilting in the Winedale Quilt Collection.” The pieces in this exhibition showcase the quilter as inventive recycler, chronicler of important milestones or the passage of time, and designer of garments inspired by and incorporating quilting techniques. The exhibit is open Friday, Dec. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 8 and Friday, Dec. 13 through Sunday, Dec. 15. The exhibit hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.

Round Top Family Library

The monthly Senior Citizen Gaming Party will take place Sunday, Nov. 24 from 2-4 p.m. Come enjoy fellowship and light refreshments. Bring your family and friends.

Saturday, Dec. 7, come enjoy Christmas at the Library. Take pictures with Santa, enjoy a Christmas ornament craft table, and don’t miss the cinnamon bun and hot cocoa bar. Kelsi Machacek will perform music throughout the event. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 12 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 8, the library is hosting “A Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote. Sally Reynolds will share this unforgettable and cherished Christmas Story beginning at 2 p.m. Refreshments served.

These events are free and open to the public.

Round Top Rifle Hall

Don’t forget about RTRH Monday night social on the first, second and third Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the continued improvement of the Round Top Rifle Association.

Festival Hill

Saturday, Dec. 7, enjoy a colorful and engaging showcase of original compositions and classic arrangements for two pianos featuring the Martin-Meliton Piano Duo. Pre-concert lunch is available. Tickets are $30 each.

Sunday, Dec. 8 the Blinn College District Wind Symphony and Chorus will perform “Sounds of the Seasons.”

Tickets are $10 each.

The legendary ballet, “The Nutcracker” will be at Festival Hill on Saturday, Dec. 14. This year’s production celebrates the 15th annual performance danced by Ovation Ballet Company.

Linda Mattocks, President, opened the regular Sons of Hermann business meeting on Nov. 21 at the American Legion Hall in Round Top, with the Pledge of Allegiance. The group enjoyed a great attendance, one visitor, and one transfer to the lodge this month.

The country store for the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Dept. fundraiser was very successful. Thank you to everyone who brought items or donations, set up, cleaned up, worked or volunteered in any way.Abig “thank you” to Sara Barton for her plants that people bought early. It was decided that Sara should be invited to be the honoree special guest at the Christmas party.

Community coordinator, Melanie Rauch, sent well cards to Dwight Nittsche and Lana Limmer. We are glad to have Margie Stardig healed and joining in on the meetings again.

Linda’s report included the home office updating the retirement home, and information regarding the Medicare Advantage plans. Remember to notify the home office if you wish to continue to receive the Hermann Sons News by mail.

Lila Garlin will lead decorating for the Christmas party on Sunday Dec. 8. Social hour will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a short meeting, pin presentations, and a catered meal at 12:30 p.m. After, there will be a fun game of “rob your neighbor” and other games. Members may bring dessert items to share and their gift to participate in the game.

Betty Porter will be in charge of the Chinese Christmas game. All who would like to participate are asked to bring a $15 gift. Jeanette will bring the mystery gift. Linda will bring other guessing games.

The lodge will again be collecting gifts for CASA. Please bring donations to the Round Top Real Estate Office or to the party. Items for baby to age 18, suitcases, backpacks, or gift cards are appreciated.

Happy birthday was sung to Virgie Hall who celebrated Nov. 29. Happy Anniversary to Bob and Betty Porter, who celebrated 49 years on November 22. Attendance prizes were won by Jeanette Hancock, Ray Ullrich, Earl Fenske, Lila Garlin and Linda Mattocks.

A big thank you to Betty Porter for the door prizes won by Jeanette Schoenst, Margie Stardig, Melanie and Sophie Rauch, Barton Garlin, Mario Trevino, Mert and Leonard Meinkowsy. Thank you to Lila Garlin for the plant won by Jo Ann Ullrich. A delicious meal of lasagna with garlic bread and three different salads plus a table full of desserts with refreshments was enjoyed by all.

Church News

Mass at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Warrenton will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 a.m. More information can be found at stjohnfayetteville. com/st-martin.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby services are at 8 a.m.

Round Top Church meets at 8:45 a.m. for Bible Study, and the service is held at 10 a.m.

St. Cecilia holds service in Haw Creek Chapel at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church (BLC) services are at 9:30 a.m. This year’s Christmas Program will be Dec. 8. Please contact Stacy Eilers if your child would like a role.

Sunday, Nov. 17 was the Women’s Thankoffering Service at BLC. The donated nonperishable food and love offering was donated to AMEN Food Pantry. Lanette Williams led with a very inspiring message on prayer. She concluded with the statement “prayer is not like a spare tire to use only when in need; it’s the steering wheel that you need to cling to.” Tracey Faske and Julie Wantland presented the readings. Kathy Schatte led the Apostle’s Creed and prayers. The praise team, included John Bone, Jolene Wickel, Lanette Williams, Cathy Gau, Tracey Faske, and Diane Tovey. Jackie Sacks and daughter Rebecca presented a skit on the Lord’s Prayer. Morgan and Cayden, and Lilianna and Noah Wantland collected the noisy offering. Pastor Nedbalek recited the words of institution and served communion with Jeanette Schoenst and Rebecca Sacks assisting. Sherry Pennington and Stephanie Jamison served as ushers.

Cathy Gau, sewing group Chairperson, led the blessing of the quilts displayed on the pews. 44 quilts that will be sent to Tampa, Florida and Knoxville, Tenn. for hurricane relief. The work of these quilters continues to be a blessing for someone in need.

Congratulations was said to Avery Nelius, Jill and Tess Eilers, and all church members on the RTC volleyball team who participated in state competition.

A short business meeting followed the service. The WELCA board of officers for 2025 will be: Coordinator- Cathy Gau, Assistant Coordinator -Stephanie Jamison, Communicator - Sherry Pennington, Financial Officer - Jeanette Schoenst, Mission Action - Kathy Schatte, Mission Growth - Pearlie Wagner, Mission Community - Jackie Sacks.

Cathy explained the jobs of all these officers and continued to share what the women support during the church year.

The next Bible study is Dec. 5 at 9:30 a.m. with Pearlie Wagner as hostess. There will be a potluck luncheon for the noon meal. Guests are asked to bring anything they choose. Wishing all a very wonderful Happy Thanksgiving.
