Child Hit by Car Will be OK
A 10-year-old child was in stable condition after a vehicle struck his bicycle in Schulenburg on Sunday, Sept. 1.
The accident happened around 5:19 p.m. at US 77 and August St., located on the south side of town.
According to a report from Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek, the child was on August St. and attempted to cross US 77. A silver 2022 Ford Expedition was heading south on US 77. Another vehicle in front of the Expedition was turning onto Lyons Ave. Brenek said the child crossed the highway as the other vehicle turned, thinking the roadway was clear.
Brenek said the driver of the Expedition did not see the child on the bicycle until the other vehicle turned. The Expedition struck the child. Brenek said the driver immediately stopped and got out to render aid.
The child was injured but conscious and alert, Brenek said. Fayette County EMS transported the child to Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin. EMS Director Josh Vandever said the child was in stable condition. Schulenburg Police Officers Rayden Svatek and Juan Castilleja investigated the accident.
