La Grange City Secretary Janet Bayer administered the oath of office to the four city council members beginning their new terms in office on Monday night, May 11.
Returning to the Council are Kathy Weishuhn for Ward 1 and Bryan Kerr for Ward 4. Both of them were unopposed in the recent City election. Two new members joined the Council: Dylan Schlotterbeck for Ward 2 and Pamela Giese for Ward 3. Schlotterbeck replaces Violet “Patsy” Zbranek, who stepped down this year after 20 years in office. Giese takes the place of Kim Newton, who did not run for re-election.
Also at the meeting, La Grange City Council picked Councilman Ken Taylor as the new mayor pro tem.
Taylor succeeds Weishuhn, who had held the post since 2022. The mayor pro tem conducts the duties of the mayor when the mayor is unavailable. Unlike most other appointed positions in City government, which the mayor appoints with the Council’s consent, the mayor pro tem position is picked exclusively by the City Council.
At Monday’s meeting, Mayor Jan Dockery opened nominations for the position. Councilwoman Katie Gross nominated Taylor. The Council voted unanimously to appoint Taylor to the position.
