Celebrating Shakespeare, On What Would Have Been His 461st Birthday
La Grange elementary sixth grade teacher Emily Ayres (center, in the right photo) took her English classes outside last week on what would have been William Shakespeare’s 461st birthday to practice some scenes from his plays. Above students, rehearse scenes from “Romeo and Juliet.” Through her work at the elementary, Ayres continues to cultivate students’ appreciation and understandings of Shakespeare, which is something her father, James “Doc” Ayres started when he founded Shakespeare at Winedale (for college students, which is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year) and Camp Shakespeare (for young people, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year).
