CDA No. 1962 Meets Jan. 24
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Annunciation No. 1962 held their monthly meeting Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. Members were asked to bring towels to donate to Annunciation Maternity Home.
Under the Circle of Love spoke, Quality of Life, the court hosted a Christmas party at Giddings State School for 37 young men. Nine members from Court Annunciation attended and the court provided hamburgers, chips, cookies and a drink. Each young man received a gift bag and then Christmas carols were sung and games were played. We also served our homebound with our Cookies for the Homebound project. Over 100 homebound were identified and each one received a goody bag filled with home baked cookies, a nativity magnet and a greeting card. Ladies from our court took the time to personally deliver these bags and spend time visiting with our homebound.
December’s projects are very rewarding as we do what we can to fill our motto of “Unity and Charity” to bring social awareness to those in pain, poverty, sorrow and/or sickness by extending a helping hand and compassion. But we also took some time to celebrate with each other and our local Knights of Columbus and Queen of the Holy Rosary CDA with a Christmas party. A meal was provided, Christmas carols were sung, young ones received a goody bag and fellowship was enjoyed by all.
In January, the court participated in a Pro-Life Holy Hour in response to the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. The event was held on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange following the 5 p.m. Mass. Father Brian Phillips gave a beautiful reflection and members of Court Annunciation led a Rosary for life of the Joyful mysteries and also read scripture.
The Annual Family and Anniversary Dinner will be held on Sunday, April 3. Invitations will be in the February newsletter. Our annual Fish Fry has been scheduled for Friday, March 11.
Several members will be attending the Pray and Play weekend on Feb. 19 and 20 in Sugarland. The meeting closed with a prayer. The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 28.
