Catholic Daughters Award Memorial Scholarships
In support of education, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) Texas State Court has a Memorial Scholarship program. This year they received 131 applications and awarded 44 Memorial Scholarships totaling $55,000 to qualifying high school seniors of 2022. Courts throughout Texas were notified of winners and asked to present the scholarships on behalf of the Texas State Court; and Court Annunciation No. 1962 in La Grange had sponsored four winners.
At the 6:30 p.m. meeting of Court Annunciation No. 1962 held Monday, May 23 in the Sacred Heart Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Center meeting room, Court Annunciation Scholarship Co-Chairman Elizabeth Kallus read the congratulatory letter from Texas State Court Memorial Scholarship Chairman Melodie Brunt, after which Co-Chairman Stacy Ryza introduced the winners and their qualifying CDA members while Regent Shirley Antosh presented the scholarships. Each of the winners gave insight into their future plans.
Scholarship winners from La Grange High School are as follows: Receiving $1,250 was Alessandra Solorzano whose mother is Leticia Solorzano and sisters are Sophia and Mia Solorzano. Receiving $1,000 scholarships are Brynn Mikulenka whose mother is Katie Swafford, and Abigail Dela Rosa whose mother is Myra Dela Rosa.
A winner from Rockport Fulton High School receiving a $1,000 scholarship is Kelsey Polasek whose grandmother is Shirley Polasek and she accepted the scholarship on her behalf.
