Flatonia Police are investigating a crash that happened Saturday night, causing major damage to a building in downtown.

The call came in around 2:20 a.m. on Aug 17. Flatonia Police Officer Wilbert “Billy” Kalina, Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies, Flatonia Volunteer Fire Department, and Fayette County EMS all responded.

According to a report from Flatonia Police Chief Lee Dick, the vehicle was traveling south on South Penn Street (SH 95) from E. North Main Street (US 90). The only occupant was a male driver.

Dick said the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a utility pole and went over a curb, coming to rest in a building in the 200 block of S. Penn.

The crashed caused a brief power outage in the area due to the utility pole damage.

Power was restored by City of Flatonia utility workers. EMS transported the driver to Ascension Seton-Smithville for evaluation.

Dick said the investigation remains underway.
