Camryn Smith Graduates From TAMS in Denton

Camryn Smith of La Grange graduated high school on May 8, 2025, in a class size of 143 students from The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science in Denton. Camryn received Highest Academic Distinction with a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Camryn went to Elementary school in La Grange, K-7 grade, and Flatonia Secondary, 8-10 grade, where she participated in Band, FFA, UIL Academics, NHS, Interact, and numerous sports. The past two years Camryn has attended The Texas Academy of Math and Science, an early college, magnet-boarding school for gifted and talented students located at The University of North Texas campus in Denton. Camryn has been a member of the Judicial Board, Habitudes Leadership Group, and the Ignite Christian Club serving as a marketing executive. At TAMS she was on the General Math and Science Track, where she accumulated an astounding 74 college credit hours, enough hours to be classified as a Junior in college. Camryn has had the opportunity to take many honors classes and electives while at TAMS such as Neuroscience, advanced Physics, and Organic Chemistry. TAMS students rank an impressive 2nd in ACT and 8th in SAT scores in the United States.

Over the years Camryn has volunteered at Shiloh Fields, Our Daily Bread Shelter in Denton, La Grange Church of Christ, Amen Food Bank, and the Fayette County Fair. Camryn has worked the last couple of years as a lifeguard, housekeeper, barista, and on the recreation staff at Camp Tejas in Giddings. She has received several academic awards in high school, two through the College Board National Recognition Program, earning the Small Town/Rural & Hispanic Awards. Additionally, Camryn has been placed on the UNT Dean’s List with a 4.0 GPA and received numerous UNT academic scholarships. Camryn will continue her education at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California as a George Pepperdine Scholar. Pepperdine is an undergraduate liberal arts school, a private Christian research university affiliated with the Churches of Christ with 3,553 undergraduate students.

Best known for its commitment to global education, Pepperdine operates at six different campuses, including Buenos Aires, Florence, Heidelberg, London, Washington, DC, and Chateau d’Hauteville in Switzerland each offering distinctive experiences. An astonishing 80% of Pepperdine students study abroad, experiencing local cultures through living and studying in the heart of each city. At Pepperdine, Camryn is interested in studying abroad and will major in Chemistry. Camryn hopes to pursue a career in healthcare, as she is particularly interested in making affordable healthcare available to rural communities.

Camryn is the daughter of Derek and Sue Smith, and granddaughter of Eugene and Rose Urbanovsky of La Grange.
