BENEDICK: “That a woman conceived me, I thank her; That she brought me up, I likewise give her most humble thanks.

But that I will have a recheat winded in my forehead Or hang my bugle in an invisible baldrick, All women shall pardon me.

Because I will not do them the wrong to mistrust any, I will do myself the right to trust none.

And the fine is, for the which I may go the finer, I will live a bachelor.”

Thus begins the intertwining dance of mirth and melancholy that is William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” – a luminous and mischievous tale teeming with sharp wit, hopeful hearts, and shadowed whispers. Set in a sun-drenched world of masked revels, midnight deceptions, and gardens alive with laughter, this timeless play explores themes of honor and betrayal, trust and misunderstanding, and, ultimately, the transformative nature of love.

The new group of Camp Shakespeareans will begin exploring the play upon their arrival in Fayette County on Sunday, June 29.

This marks the 25th summer for Camp Shakespeare, a program dedicated to exploring Shakespeare through performance. Founded by University of Texas professor James “Doc” Ayres in 1964, the program found its longstanding home in Winedale in 1970. Ayres now serves as “Director of Mission,” working closely with students to illuminate Shakespeare’s language, while passing the directorship to Robin Grace Soto.

“We are honored to watch these young Shakespeareans give voice and life to this play’s spirited banter and timeless truths.” Soto said. Reservations for the performances are recommended but not required. For additional information about performance dates, times, and locations, and to make your reservation, please email robingracesoto@utexas.edu or call (512) 471-8743.
