Investigators located the remains of a female along Coufal Rd. north of Fayetteville on Tuesday, April 15.

The discovery comes amidst an investigation into a missing woman, 39-yearold Viviana Ortiz-Zuniga, who was last seen in the Fayetteville area on the night of Wednesday, April 2. Her vehicle was later recovered in Austin County.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment on whether the remains belonged to the missing woman, citing the ongoing investigation. Investigators were still working to identify the remains as of Wednesday afternoon, April 16. The body was found in a decomposed state and it was not immediately clear how long it had been there, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Numerous first responders, including some wearing white haz-mat suits, were at the scene on Coufal Rd. around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The location was about 100 yards west of Sykora Rd. Around the same time, other law enforcement personnel were at a residence on FM 955 south of Fayetteville, where they were loading a pickup onto a tow truck. The Sheriff’s Office said it could not release much information at this time in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
