“Let Freedom Ring” was the theme for the annual Martin Luther Lutheran Women of the ELCA Salad Supper and Program held on Wednesday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. with 41 persons in attendance.

Galatians 5:13 was the theme verse, “For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants of one another.” The fellowship hall and tables were decorated in the traditional patriotic colors of red, white, and blue.

Leonita Sanders welcomed the guests, led the WELCA purpose statement, and then the Table Prayer was sung. This was followed by a delicious assortment of salads, casseroles, side dishes, and desserts.

The program, “Let Freedom Ring”, began with The Star-Spangled Banner, which was beautifully sung by young Ida Schoenst. The speaker for the evening was Jane Press of Carmine, a former teacher and owner of Pecan Grove Inn B & B, who gave an interesting and informative presentation on “The Flag.” It included the history and facts throughout the years. She ended with all joining in with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Each guest was given the brochure, “The Flag Code.”

Door prizes of decorated begonia plants were won by Rae Worrell, Faith Whitsel, Ida Schoenst, Emma Baird, Carolyn Bennetsen, Ann Aschenbeck, Leonita Sanders, Jane Press, Pearlie Wagner, Vickie Schroeder, Melissa Nedbalek, JoLynn Schoenberg, and Cathy Gau.

The evening closed with the singing of God Bless America with Nancy Eilers as the pianist and the closing prayer by Leonita Sanders. Pastor John David Nedbalek gave the benediction.
