Benefit Set Up After Kubenka House Fire

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) put out a house fire on FM 1579 east of town on Tuesday, July 14. The home belonged to Judy Kubenka, and a benefit fund has been set up to assist in repairs.

SVFD reports the call came in around 5:53 p.m. Firefighters found the home engulfed with smoke upon arrival. All occupants got out of the home unharmed.

After gas and electricity were cut off, firefighters entered the attic and interior of the home. They located fire in the kitchen. The fire had just breeched the ceiling and got into the attic. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. They then set up ventilators to clear the house of smoke.

SVFD reports that the kitchen area was a total loss. The dining and living room areas suffered heavy smoke damage, but the home was saved.

Schulenburg Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Fayette County EMS responded as well.
