ArtWalk Returns to Fayetteville This May
Arts for Rural Texas is gearing up for this year’s Art-Walk, Fayetteville’s annual juried fine art festival. The event, free and open to the public, will take place on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fayetteville’s historic town square.
ArtWalk welcomes over 60 artists working in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fiber, and mixed media. Among the many talented artists participating this year, Tim Vanya, Mark Curtin, and Carlos Moseley will be showcasing their work.
Tim “Pops” Vanya brings the spirit of the American West to life through his masterful paintings, depicting classic Western scenes and elegant figurative works with striking realism. His art reflects a deep admiration for Western heritage and timeless beauty. “My heroes have always been cowboys... the men and women that make up the West,” he says. A highly acclaimed artist, Vanya has earned countless awards, and his work can be found in both private and public collections across the Lone Star State. He creates from his home studio, Tin Star Studio, in Somerville.
Like Vanya, Mark Curtin grew up with movies and TV shows set in the Old West. Curtin’s photography offers a more contemporary portrayal of Texas. Based in Hallettsville, his work captures the true spirit of the countryside, far removed from the fictionalized versions seen in old Hollywood films. “I live in this world, along with the mythology of the cowboy and of Texas. I am both apart and part of it,” he explains. From native wildflowers, land-scapes, and backroad views to cowboys, rodeo, and abstract compositions, Curtin’s photographs reflect the essence of rural life.
While Vanya and Curtin tell stories through traditional mediums, Carlos Moseley takes a different approach. Carefully sourcing native rocks, stones, and pebbles from above ground to preserve the natural environment, he transforms them into extraordinary rock art creations. His work features a diverse range of subjects, including faces, religious imagery, scenes of the Old West, weddings, sports, animals, and more. Displayed across Texas and beyond, Moseley’s unique creations have even found their way to Europe.
In addition to fine art, Art-Walk attendees can enjoy artist demonstrations, live music, children’s activities, a food court, a wine booth, and more. Join the festivities and discover many other unique artists at this year’s ArtWalk.
