Animal Shelter Update

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter took in 75 dogs and cats in need the week of April 26-May 2. The shelter jumped from 102 in care to 155 in care in seven days. As of May 2, the total intake for 2025 is 576: 297 dogs and 279 cats in need. There are 155 animals in care: 79 dogs and 76 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to a rescue partner.

The shelter offers a discount voucher program to the citizens of Fayette County for the spay or neuter of family pets and a microchip special for Fayette County pets. A microchip increases the chances of being reunited with your pet by 73%. Call (979) 966-0021 for more information.
